Another day at the rocket ranch

Work is going a lot like it usually does. This is a good thing, overall. My new job has a new set of challenges. Less technical, more people type problems. For example, we just solved a long standing problem that they had been working on for over 6 months. The operators were scanning the bar codes indicating that they had finished a manufacturing operation, but this was not being recorded in the database some times. This was happening about 5% of the time. Way too often. We finally asked if we could be there when the scanning was done to try to captu;re the problem real time. It turned out that the operator was always scanning the first page in the book, without ever reading it. Turns out, about 5% of the time, document control had mis-collated the pages! He was scanning the wrong operation as being complete. In the meantime they had spent a bunch of money upgrading the wireless network in the manufacturing area since everyone was sure that the network was the problem. That is how I spent my day.
