Coyote Gulch: 30 for 30

Here's a few photos from Danny's and my trip to Escalante. We had a great time. We were able to get in and out with no incident, and hike a lot of miles. We figure the GPS cut out quite a few of our miles, but somehow, someway it still hit 30.0 miles on the dot when we touched the car. I felt a big sense of accomplishment (though we did not run any of the miles hahah. Danny may not agree to their difficulty :) There was some great swimming along the Escalante River, which had chin deep swimming holes on every bend and every time it came against a boulder. There really is nothing like swimming in deep-ish water in the desert. We even made the–upon hindsight–questionable decision to head to the Hole in the Rock and swim in Lake Powell. After a scary late night drive, it turned out to be pretty cool. I have no idea what kind of will power it would take to drive horses, oxen, and wagons through that little canyon. It was hard enough just to get ourselves down it.

What an incredible trip! It's hard to reconcile it with my life at the moment, as I sit in a high rise in Seattle. What an amazing place to escape to. We'll have to do a trip with all the boys and Dad one of these years!
